Residents across Karachi are facing worsening water shortages ahead of Eid ul Azha after supply was disrupted in several parts of the city without any prior public announcement.

The sudden suspension has forced many families to purchase expensive private water tankers to manage daily household needs during Eid preparations, with residents complaining about rising tanker prices and the lack of information from authorities.

Areas affected by the disruption include Korangi, Landhi, Malir, Gulshan-e-Iqbal, Gulistan-e-Jauhar, Liaquatabad, Gulberg, Nazimabad, PIB Colony, Mahmoodabad and parts of the Old City Area.

According to sources, the shortage is linked to repair work on a conduit line near Safoora, which has affected Karachi’s water distribution network. Water supply from the Safoora and Nipa hydrants has also reportedly been impacted due to the ongoing maintenance work.

Residents expressed frustration over the absence of any official advisory regarding the suspension or the expected restoration timeline, saying water shortages in the city frequently intensify before major religious festivals.

Despite the widespread disruption, no official statement has been issued by the water corporation spokesperson regarding the outage or when normal water supply will be restored in the affected areas.
