The US National Security Agency is reportedly using Anthropic’s new Mythos Preview model, despite the company’s ongoing dispute with the Pentagon, according to a report by Axios citing two people familiar with the matter.
Anthropic introduced Mythos Preview earlier this month and described it as a general-purpose language model with strong capabilities in computer security tasks.
In February, President Donald Trump reportedly ordered federal agencies to stop using Anthropic services after contract discussions broke down over safeguards related to military use. The disagreement created a months-long standoff between Anthropic and the Pentagon.
The latest report comes days after Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei reportedly met White House chief of staff Susie Wiles and other officials.
According to Reuters , the White House later described the meeting as productive and constructive. When asked by reporters, Trump said he had no idea about the meeting.
Axios reported that the NSA is among roughly 40 organizations that received access to Mythos Preview.
One source told the outlet that the model is also being used more broadly within the department.
Anthropic remains involved in a legal dispute with the US government.
The company filed lawsuits against the Department of Defense in two courts in March after the Trump administration labeled Anthropic a supply chain risk.
One court granted Anthropic a preliminary injunction temporarily blocking the designation, while judges in another case denied the company’s request to remove the label.
