Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has warned that it would be a negative outcome for the United States if DeepSeek launches its upcoming AI model entirely on Huawei hardware.
Huang said such a move could signal that global AI systems are beginning to shift away from US technology, potentially affecting America’s position in the sector.
DeepSeek’s next model, DeepSeek V4, is expected later this month and is already attracting industry attention. Reports suggest the model could run on Huawei’s Ascend chips instead of relying on Nvidia graphics processors.
However, some indications suggest the model may still support Nvidia’s Blackwell architecture.
If DeepSeek moves fully to Huawei hardware, it would be one of the first major AI models to operate outside the US chip ecosystem.
Huawei chips are widely viewed as behind leading US alternatives in raw computing performance.
But Chinese firms are increasingly focusing on scale and software optimization rather than relying only on the most advanced chips.
Methods such as Mixture-of-Experts are being used to improve efficiency and performance across large AI systems.
China also benefits from a large pool of AI engineering talent and lower-cost energy resources.
These factors can support large computing clusters using many processors at once, helping offset hardware limitations.
The issue comes amid rising tensions between the US and China over advanced technology. US lawmakers have called for tighter restrictions on Chinese AI firms, while some recent supply decisions have suggested a more mixed policy direction.
The competition is increasingly extending beyond chip performance. Software efficiency, scaling methods, and ecosystem control are becoming central to the next phase of the global AI race.
If DeepSeek successfully deploys a leading model on Huawei chips, it could become a major milestone in that shift.
