The United Nations has reportedly added Israeli and Russian security forces to its blacklist following allegations related to sexual violence, according to international media reports.
The decision marks a significant escalation in scrutiny of state security forces, as the UN cited concerns over serious violations linked to sexual misconduct during conflicts. The move places both forces under increased international monitoring.
The decision has drawn a strong reaction from Israel, which rejected the UN listing and called it “shameful.” Israeli officials argued that the decision unfairly equates Israel with militant groups, including Hamas.
Meanwhile, the inclusion of Russian security forces has also sparked diplomatic attention, further intensifying tensions surrounding ongoing global conflicts involving Russia.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres had previously warned in August last year that both Israeli and Russian forces could be placed on the list if credible evidence of violations continued to emerge.
The development highlights growing international pressure on all parties to uphold human rights standards during armed conflicts.
