Before demanding $1 billion and a wife from Turkey in April 2026, Uganda’s pro-Israel army chief Muhoozi Kainerugaba made a series of social media posts in 2022 wishing to marry Italy’s current Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French newspaper Le Monde reported at the time.
In earlier widely reported remarks, Kainerugaba suggested offering 100 Ankole cows to Italy in exchange for marrying Meloni, and made additional statements that included references to taking military action toward Rome if his demand wasn’t met.
Muhoozi’s comments garnered so much public backlash that his father, Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni, formally distanced himself from the case and said his son’s personal overtures weren’t related to his professional standing as leader.
In the same year, Muhoozi also made statements directed at Kenya that were widely reported and later followed by official clarification and a temporary suspension from his role as army chief.
More recently, posts attributed to Muhoozi have circulated online when he demanded to marry a Turkish woman.
The statements continue to attract a lot of views online due to their recurring diplomatic sensitivity and the high-profile nature of the figures involved.
