Ramadan is expected to begin in the UAE on Monday, 8 February 2027, according to astronomical calculations. Eid Al Fitr could fall on 9 or 10 March, while Eid Al Adha is likely to be observed on 16 or 17 May 2027.
The International Astronomical Center (IAC) calculated the expected dates for the Islamic year 1448 AH. These dates are early estimates and have not yet been officially confirmed.
The UAE authorities will announce the final dates after the relevant crescent moons have been sighted.
Astronomers expect the Ramadan crescent to be sighted on 6 and 7 February 2027.
According to the calculations, the crescent will not be visible from the UAE on 6 February because of the moon’s position and the timing of the conjunction.
Sha’ban is therefore expected to last for 30 days. This would make 8 February 2027 the first day of Ramadan in the UAE.
Ramadan began on 18 February in 2026. The expected 2027 date is around 10 days earlier because the Hijri calendar follows the lunar cycle.
Eid Al Fitr begins on the first day of Shawwal after the end of Ramadan.
The Shawwal crescent could be sighted on the evening of Monday, 8 March 2027. If the crescent is visible, Eid Al Fitr will begin on Tuesday, 9 March.
If the moon is not sighted and Ramadan lasts for 30 days, Eid Al Fitr will fall on Wednesday, 10 March 2027.
Eid Al Adha is celebrated on the 10th day of Dhul Hijjah, one day after Arafah.
The Dhul Hijjah crescent is expected to be checked on 6 or 7 May 2027. Depending on the sighting, the Islamic month could begin on 7 or 8 May.
This would place Arafah on 15 or 16 May, followed by Eid Al Adha on Sunday, 16 May, or Monday, 17 May 2027.
Hijri months last either 29 or 30 days, depending on the moon sighting. The UAE Council for Fatwa and its moon-sighting committees will confirm the dates closer to each occasion.
