UAE residents can now access Jaywan cards as the country officially launches nationwide issuance through banks, licensed financial institutions, and exchange houses.

Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President, Deputy Prime Minister, Chief of the Presidential Court, and Chairman of the Central Bank of the UAE, formally inaugurated Jaywan, the UAE’s first national card scheme.

Banks and licensed institutions will roll out the cards in phases over the coming months.

First Abu Dhabi Bank has introduced a Jaywan debit card, while Commercial Bank of Dubai is launching Jaywan prepaid cards. Network International has simultaneously enabled online payments across thousands of merchants in the UAE.

Together, these announcements cover debit cards linked to bank accounts, prepaid alternatives, and wider online acceptance.

Jaywan supports in-store purchases, online payments, ATM withdrawals, and compatible digital wallets. International usage will depend on the specific card issued and applicable rules.

Operated by Al Etihad Payments, a Central Bank subsidiary, Jaywan provides a domestic network that routes, authorises, and processes card transactions locally.

The scheme aims to strengthen the UAE’s control over its payment infrastructure and keep domestic payment data within the country.

“This achievement reflects the UAE’s commitment to developing a more efficient, resilient and competitive financial sector that unlocks broader opportunities for innovation, promotes financial inclusion, and further strengthens the UAE’s position as a leading global financial hub,” Sheikh Mansour said.

Ali Al Najjar, Chief Executive Officer of Al Ansari Exchange, described Jaywan as a comprehensive national payment scheme offering secure and reliable payment options across point-of-sale terminals, e-commerce platforms, ATMs, and digital wallets.

FAB customers with eligible accounts can apply for the Jaywan debit card through the FAB Mobile app or at a branch.

The card supports 3D Secure authentication for online transactions and Chip and PIN technology for in-person purchases.

CBD’s prepaid cards will require users to load funds before spending and will support contactless transactions and tokenisation through compatible mobile wallets.
