TikTok is testing a new tool that helps creators find AI-generated videos using their face or likeness without permission.

The feature was first spotted by social media consultant Matt Navarra. TikTok US spokesperson Zachary Kizer later confirmed that the test is currently limited to a small group of creators in the United States.

The tool is optional, but creators must verify their identity before they can use it.

TikTok requires users to complete the process through Jumio, a third-party identity verification company. The verification includes a real-time selfie and an ID check. Kizer said TikTok does not keep ID documents, while facial data is used only to match a creator’s likeness and identify possible unauthorized AI-generated content.

After verification, TikTok scans AI-generated content that may include the creator’s face or likeness.

If the system finds possible matches, the creator can review them and report posts or accounts they believe are impersonating them. The goal is to give creators a direct way to act against AI deepfakes and unauthorized digital copies.

TikTok’s test comes after YouTube expanded its own likeness detection tool.

YouTube’s system uses a selfie-style scan to monitor the platform for videos that resemble a user. If YouTube finds a match, the user can review the video and request removal. YouTube expanded access to all eligible users over 18 after earlier testing with creators.

TikTok’s approach is different because the feature requires creators to choose in before scanning begins.

That matters as platforms face more pressure over consent and AI-generated likenesses. Meta recently pulled a Muse Image feature after backlash over a tool that automatically accessed public Instagram photos to create AI-generated images.

The TikTok test puts verification and user control at the center of the process. It also shows that AI likeness detection is becoming a standard safety feature for major video platforms.

For now, the feature remains a limited test. TikTok has not announced when it will roll out more widely.
