The Supreme Court (SC) has announced a summer vacation arrangement for 2026 under which judges will spend more time hearing cases at the court’s principal seat in Islamabad to help improve judicial efficiency and accelerate the disposal of pending cases.
According to a statement issued by the Supreme Court’s Public Relations Department, the decision was made after consultations among judges at the request of the Chief Justice of Pakistan.
Under the arrangement, judges have voluntarily agreed to maximize their sitting period in Islamabad during the summer recess while reducing, where applicable, the time spent at branch registries.
The Supreme Court said the measure is intended to ensure greater judicial availability during the vacation period and facilitate the uninterrupted hearing and disposal of cases.
The court clarified that the actual vacation period availed by judges will remain four weeks, consistent with previous years. According to the statement, the initiative reflects the judiciary’s commitment to making better use of institutional resources, improving court performance and enhancing access to timely and effective justice.
