Spotify has started verifying non-AI artists through a new badge system aimed at improving authenticity and trust across its platform.
The new “Verified by Spotify” label will appear on artist profiles and next to artist names in search results over the coming weeks.
Spotify said the badge will be given to artists who show consistent listener activity and engagement over time.
Eligible artists must also remain in good standing with Spotify’s platform policies and maintain an identifiable presence both on and off the platform.
That presence may include concert dates, merchandise, and linked social media accounts. The verification symbol will feature “Verified by Spotify” text alongside a light green checkmark icon.
Spotify said AI-generated artists and AI-persona acts are not currently eligible for verification.
The company added that artist authenticity is a complex and evolving area, and said its approach may continue to change over time.
Spotify said 99% of artists that users actively search for will be verified at launch. The company said it is prioritizing artists with active fan interest or those who have made meaningful contributions to music culture and history.
It added that the rollout will focus less on functional music creators and content farms that mainly produce passive or background listening material.
Spotify is also introducing a new beta section across all artist profiles. The feature will highlight details such as career milestones, release activity, and touring history. It will appear in the About section of artist profiles on mobile devices in the coming weeks. Users will also be able to view these details by tapping the Verified by Spotify banner.
