The Sindh government has decided to dismiss more than 10,000 employees of the School Education Department after declaring them “ghost employees” for remaining absent from duty.

According to reports, those facing dismissal include primary school teachers, junior elementary school teachers, naib qasids, watchmen, gardeners, and lab attendants.

The School Education Department had issued show cause notices to the employees, but officials said they failed to provide satisfactory explanations for their absence.

Hyderabad Division recorded the highest number of ghost employees, with more than 2,000 staff members declared absconding. Similar cases were also identified in Karachi, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Larkana, and Shaheed Benazirabad divisions.

The government plans to begin dismissing the identified ghost employees from August as part of its efforts to improve accountability and attendance in the education sector.
