Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed authorities to prepare a comprehensive plan for setting up three modern provincial data centres under the Digital Sindh project.
The decision was taken during a meeting with National Telecommunication Corporation Managing Director Major General retired Ali Farhan.
Senior provincial officials and NTC representatives also attended the session.
The meeting reviewed cooperation between the Sindh government and NTC in telecommunications, data management, cloud services and cybersecurity.
Officials also discussed opportunities for stronger digital governance in the province.
The chief minister was briefed on NTC’s ICT infrastructure across Pakistan, including its existing data centres in Islamabad, Lahore and Quetta.
He was told that NTC already operates around 1,000 kilometres of optical fibre network in Sindh.
Officials said a modern data centre is also planned for Karachi to meet e-governance needs and strengthen data sovereignty.
They added that the facility would support secure storage, cloud services, disaster recovery and business continuity for government departments.
Murad Ali Shah said Sindh is entering a new phase of digital governance and technology-led public administration.
He called secure data infrastructure a strategic need and said government data must be protected as a national asset.
He directed the Planning and Development Board, the IT Department and NTC to prepare a detailed roadmap covering technical requirements, completion timeline, administrative structure and future expansion needs.
The chief minister also said the proposed data centre should meet global standards for cybersecurity, data protection and disaster recovery. He suggested that the project could be launched through a public-private partnership model.
