Pakistan-born retired Pakistan Navy officer Councillor Faisal Rana is now working as the Mayor of Rochdale for the 2026-27 civic year in the United Kingdom.
Faisal Rana officially assumed charge as the Mayor of Rochdale on Wednesday, May 20, 2026.
Born in Lahore, Faisal began his career as a commissioned officer in the Pakistan Navy.
During his military service, Rana earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, specialized in marine engineering and completed a diploma in warship construction at the DCN Lorient Naval Shipbuilding Dockyard in France before later moving to the United Kingdom.
During his time on Rochdale Council, he has served in several leadership roles, including Assistant Cabinet Member for Public Health, worked on finance matters and chaired the Rochdale North Township Committee.
Outside public office, he has over two decades of experience in business, including serving as a director of a company associated with Shell UK Limited.
Besides being a Mayor, Faisal is also a licensed private pilot and regularly plays badminton.
