Rawalpindi Waste Management Company has finalized an extensive Eid-ul-Azha cleanliness plan, deploying 6,340 workers and 1,066 vehicles to collect more than 11,000 tons of waste across Rawalpindi during the three-day holiday from May 27 to May 29.
Speaking at a press conference, RWMC Managing Director Rana Sajid said the operation will run 24 hours a day in all 164 union councils and will be monitored live through CCTV cameras to ensure efficient waste disposal.
The company aims to collect around 145,000 kilograms of animal waste during Eid, while distributing 376,700 waste bags among residents. Authorities have also established 38 collective slaughter sites supported by 167 workers and 54 vehicles.
To maintain hygiene during the operation, RWMC plans to use two tons of phenyl and 981 liters of rose water over the three Eid days.
A dedicated 1139 helpline has been activated to address public complaints within 30 minutes to two hours, while a central control room staffed by 20 officials will remain operational around the clock.
Special arrangements have also been made at five cattle markets, where 55 workers and 11 vehicles have been deployed. Waste transfer operations will continue nonstop at 33 transfer stations and four dump sites.
The MD added that special cleaning drives will cover 1,556 mosques, 98 Eidgahs, and 560 graveyards across the city.
Highlighting operational challenges, Rana Sajid said RWMC has not received new machinery despite the expiration of the seven-year operational life of many existing vehicles.
He confirmed that a request for new vehicles is pending with the Punjab government, though the company has acquired 40 Shahzore mini-trucks to maintain uninterrupted services.
He stressed that the Eid cleanliness operation would continue without interruption under any circumstances, supported by CCTV monitoring and an ongoing public awareness campaign.
