Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed authorities to provide 20,000 Green Tractors to farmers during the next fiscal year as part of the provincial government’s efforts to modernize agriculture and boost productivity.
Under the initiative, farmers will receive a subsidy of Rs750,000 on tractors ranging from 50 to 65 horsepower. The chief minister said the programme aims to support farmers in adopting modern agricultural practices while reducing production costs.
Maryam Nawaz also highlighted Punjab’s first-ever interest-free loan scheme of up to Rs30 million for the purchase of 12 categories of high-tech agricultural machinery.
Through the programme, nearly 200 high-tech combined harvesters have already been provided to farmers on interest-free financing.
For the first time, 50 high-tech combined harvesters were used during the wheat harvesting season, helping improve efficiency and reduce harvesting time.
The chief minister further stated that 5,000 Super Seeders have been distributed to rice growers to help curb environmental pollution caused by crop residue burning.
The machinery is expected to facilitate rice cultivation on 1.4 million acres during the current season.
In the second phase of the programme, the government plans to distribute an additional 5,000 Super Seeders to rice farmers across Punjab.
Maryam Nawaz said promoting agricultural innovation remains a key objective of her administration. She noted that agricultural mechanisation not only lowers farming costs but also increases crop yields and efficiency.
She added that the use of Super Seeders is already contributing to a noticeable reduction in environmental pollution and stressed that modern agricultural machinery has become essential for sustainable farming.
The government is also introducing facilities that will allow small-scale farmers to rent advanced agricultural equipment at affordable rates.
