The Punjab government has introduced sweeping changes to the registration and renewal system for private schools, imposing stricter conditions aimed at improving transparency, oversight, and digitization.
Under the new policy, the Private School Regulatory Authority Punjab has been directed to strengthen monitoring, with all registration processes to be conducted through a centralized online portal.
Private schools will now be required to disclose their fee structures and ensure admission of at least 10 percent students from underprivileged backgrounds.
The revised rules also make it mandatory for schools located on main roads to install zebra crossings and clear signage. Institutions must also ensure installation of security cameras, implementation of anti-dengue standard operating procedures, and proper sanitation arrangements.
The government has further made registration on the Punjab Safety App and the Green School App compulsory, while building fitness and hygiene certificates have been included among essential documents for registration.
Additionally, franchise schools must obtain a no-objection certificate from their head office, and institutions will be required to provide transport facilities to at least 50 percent of their students.
