Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday cleared a 6-point action plan to fix long-standing tax court delays and accelerate the resolution of tax disputes.

The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the progress in the digitalization of FBR. T he approved 6-point plan includes major reforms aimed at reducing delays in tax litigation and improving institutional efficiency.

The Prime Minister directed that all measures be implemented within strict timelines to ensure visible progress.

A key component of the reforms is strengthening the Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) system to ensure faster settlement of tax cases outside courts. Officials briefed that an improved ADR mechanism will reduce the burden on the judiciary and speed up case disposal.

The meeting also approved the establishment of a Centralized Litigation Management System (CLMS), a digital platform designed to streamline tax-related legal data, improve tracking of cases, and ensure timely follow-up. The system will help bring transparency and efficiency to tax litigation management.

The CLMS will enable better reporting and coordination of tax cases, helping authorities monitor progress and reduce delays.

Officials informed the meeting that ADR forums have already helped recover Rs. 24 billion for the national exchequer this year through resolved tax disputes.

The meeting was attended by federal ministers including Muhammad Aurangzeb, Ahsan Iqbal, Attaullah Tarar, Attorney General Mansoor Usman Awan, Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani, task force members, and senior officials.
