The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to make major changes to national cricketers’ central contracts ahead of the new contract cycle starting July 1.
According to sources, the current financial model for central contracts will expire on June 30. The three-year financial structure was introduced in 2023 during the tenure of former PCB chairman Zaka Ashraf and has remained unchanged under the current chairman, Mohsin Naqvi.
Sources said preliminary discussions on the new central contracts are already underway. However, the final decision on the financial model will be made by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Last year, the PCB awarded central contracts to 30 cricketers, with no player placed in Category A for the first time.
The upcoming contracts are expected to include wide-ranging changes based on players’ fitness and performances. Several cricketers are likely to be promoted or demoted across categories.
Sources added that Mohammad Nawaz, Abdullah Shafique, Faheem Ashraf, Hussain Talat, and Khushdil Shah have slim chances of retaining their central contracts.
At the same time, domestic performers Azan Awais and Abdullah Fazal are likely to be considered for inclusion in the new contract list.
