Pakistan is facing a worsening gas crisis as RLNG supplies decline sharply, sources informed ProPakistani.
Gas supply has dropped to around 700 million cubic feet per day, down from about 1,200 MMCFD before the Middle East conflict, showing a sharp contraction in availability.
The shortfall has now crossed 600 MMCFD, forcing authorities to cut supply to power plants, fertilizer units, and even domestic consumers. Sources in Sui Northern said RLNG reserves are depleting rapidly, pushing the system under severe stress as demand remains high.
The crisis comes at a critical time when Pakistan relies heavily on imported RLNG to supplement domestic gas production. The situation has worsened after disruptions in global LNG supply due to the Iran conflict, which has affected shipments through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for energy trade.
The shortage has already started impacting electricity generation, with several gas based power plants unable to operate at full capacity due to limited fuel availability.
Despite the situation, Sui gas officials said efforts are being made to ensure supply during peak meal times for households, although overall availability remains constrained.
The current crisis marks a sharp shift from last year, when Pakistan had surplus LNG and even cancelled multiple cargoes due to lower demand.
