A former Samsung senior executive recently declared that the global memory chip rates will reverse the current 414 percent price hike if Chinese DDR5 RAM is allowed to be released everywhere, reported a tech daily.
If China’s DDR5 production reaches full-scale deployment and distribution, it could significantly increase global supply and likely trigger a massive decline in DRAM prices worldwide. RAM modules in Pakistan can get very cheap if this happens.
Game-specific RAM is currently very expensive in Pakistan. “A good DDR5 RAM in Pakistan could cost as much as Rs. 250,000-300,000. If China starts sending high-end RAM to Pakistan, we will soon get good game-grade memory for fraction of the cost,” a seasoned computer shop operator based out of Karachi told ProPakistani.
DDR5 is the latest generation of high-speed memory used in servers, personal computers, artificial intelligence systems, and data centers. The market is currently dominated by Samsung Electronics, SK hynix, and Micron Technology.
China has been expanding its semiconductor business through companies such as ChangXin Memory Technologies (CXMT), which has been working to develop DDR5-compatible solutions.
If China achieves parity in DDR5 manufacturing, the global memory market would experience increased supply and stronger competition, leading to sustained downward pressure on prices and a possible restructuring of current DRAM market dynamics.
