Pakistan fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi is most likely to be dropped for the second Test match against Bangladesh, scheduled to begin on May 16, at the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.

Khurram Shehzad is expected to replace Shaheen Afridi as Pakistan look to make changes following their disappointing 104-run defeat in the first Test at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur.

The loss gave Bangladesh a 1-0 lead in the two-match series and increased pressure on Pakistan ahead of the final game.

Bangladesh scored 413 runs in their first innings, while Pakistan responded with 386 to keep the contest closely balanced. The hosts later declared their second innings at 240-9, setting Pakistan a target of 268 runs to win.

Pakistan appeared to be in the game at 119-3, but the batting lineup collapsed dramatically and was eventually bowled out for 163. The visitors lost their final seven wickets for just 44 runs, handing Bangladesh a memorable victory.

Nahid Rana starred with the ball, taking five wickets, while Taskin Ahmed and Taijul Islam also played key roles in Pakistan’s downfall.

Following the defeat, Pakistan became only the second team after Zimbabwe to lose three consecutive Tests against Bangladesh. The Tigers had also clean-swept Pakistan 2-0 in a historic series win last year.

The result also marked Bangladesh’s first-ever Test win over Pakistan on home soil, making the defeat even more significant for the visitors.

Despite Pakistan’s loss, Shaheen Afridi reached two major career milestones during the match. He became the first Pakistani bowler to complete 100 wickets in ICC World Test Championship history after dismissing Mahmudul Hasan Joy.

Shaheen Afridi also completed 400 international wickets by removing Mominul Haque later in the match.

However, those individual achievements may not be enough to keep him in Pakistan’s plans for the second Test, with Khurram Shehzad now most likely to take his place as the team looks to level the series.
