The Government of Pakistan has launched a nationwide initiative to integrate Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) into school curricula, aiming to strengthen students’ mental, emotional, and social development alongside academics.
The program has been introduced in partnership with Right To Play and will be implemented under the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, in collaboration with the Federal Directorate of Education.
Under the initiative, students will receive 25 SEL-based lesson plans per grade throughout the academic year. The curriculum is designed to develop key life skills such as:
Teachers will undergo specialized training to create more inclusive and supportive learning environments, which officials say is critical to the program’s success.
Participating schools will also receive sports kits to promote play-based learning, helping students build leadership, resilience, and teamwork skills.
Education authorities said the initiative reflects a shift toward holistic learning, focusing not just on academic performance but also on students’ personal and social growth.
The agreement was signed in Islamabad in the presence of senior education officials and partner organizations.
Officials added that the program aims to nurture well-rounded individuals and contribute to building a more empathetic and progressive society.
