Turkey has unveiled a new long-range 6000-KM intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), state media and official data reported earlier this week.
The missile is named Yildirimhan and was presented on Tuesday during the Saha defence exhibition in Istanbul in the presence of Turkey’s Defence Minister Yasar Guler and senior military personnel.
The missile has an operational range of approximately 6,000 kilometres, allowing it to reach targets across most of Europe, large parts of Asia (including India), and significant areas of Africa if launched from Turkish territory.
The missile uses liquid nitrogen tetroxide fuel and is powered by a four-engine propulsion system.
With this new weapon, Turkey has now joined a limited group of nations capable of producing intercontinental ballistic missile technology locally.
Defence Minister Yasar Guler emphasized that Turkey’s precision-guided weapons aim to deliver advanced military capability at comparatively lower cost.
He said Turkey seeks to provide allied nations not only weapons systems but also long-term technological cooperation and sustainable defence solutions.
Turkey’s defence industry has made a lot of money selling weapons to other nations including Israel. Turkish-made drones, missiles, and smart munitions have attracted international buyers seeking more affordable alternatives to pricy Western weaponry.
Positioned between multiple geopolitical flashpoints, Turkey is increasingly investing in advanced missile and defence technologies to enhance both deterrence and export potential.
