Online bike riders have termed the recent reduction in petrol prices insufficient and urged the government to bring the fuel price down to Rs. 250 per liter, arguing that rising transportation costs continue to squeeze their earnings.
The demand comes after the government reduced petrol prices by Rs. 4 per liter in its latest review of petroleum products. However, riders associated with ride-hailing and delivery services said the cut has provided little relief given the current cost of living.
According to riders, fuel expenses consume a significant portion of their daily income, making it increasingly difficult to manage household expenditures and save money.
Several riders said that if they earn around Rs. 1,500 a day, nearly half of that amount is spent on petrol alone. They argued that high fuel costs continue to erode their take-home income despite long working hours on the road.
The riders also highlighted the challenges of working in extreme heat, saying they spend hours driving and waiting for passengers or delivery orders under harsh weather conditions.
They urged the government to further reduce petrol prices to provide meaningful relief to workers in the transport sector and help them cope with rising living costs.
The riders maintained that lower fuel prices would not only improve their earnings but also ease financial pressure on thousands of individuals who depend on motorcycles for their livelihood.
