Motorola has unveiled the Moto Pad 70 Groove, a new Android tablet with an unusual design feature: a large JBL speaker system built directly into the back.

The tablet uses a 9-unit JBL Pro Speaker System with four tweeters, three woofers, and two passive radiators. Motorola has also added Dolby Atmos and dedicated audio modes aimed at movies, music and general use.

The Moto Pad 70 Groove features a 12.1-inch LCD display with a 2,560 x 1,600-pixel resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The panel reaches up to 800 nits of peak brightness and covers 98% of the DCI-P3 color gamut. It also supports Dolby Vision and HDR10.

The tablet has a metal body and weighs 775 grams. It measures 6.8mm thick, although its thickness reaches 22.7mm around the rear speaker bump. It is available in a single Pantone Blue Surf color.

The standout feature, however, is on the back. Motorola has equipped the tablet with a 9-unit JBL Pro Speaker System consisting of four tweeters, three woofers and two passive radiators.

The audio system supports Dolby Atmos and comes with three pre-tuned modes: Dynamic, Movie and Music.

There is also a dedicated Bluetooth Speaker Mode. It allows users to stream music from a smartphone and use the Moto Pad 70 Groove as a Bluetooth speaker.

The rear panel also houses a 360-degree metal kickstand. It allows the tablet to stand upright, lie flat, tilt at different angles or hang from a suitable surface.

Motorola has designed four viewing modes around the kickstand: Lean Mode, Theatre Mode, Stand Mode and Hanging Mode.

The back also contains the power button, volume controls and a 13MP primary camera. An 8MP camera handles selfies and video calls from the front.

The Moto Pad 70 Groove is powered by MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400 chipset. It comes with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

Storage can be expanded by up to 2TB using a microSD card.

The tablet runs Android 16 out of the box. Motorola promises operating system upgrades through Android 18, along with four years of security updates.

However, Android 17 is already available, meaning the tablet could have launched with the newer version and potentially received updates through Android 19.

The Moto Pad 70 Groove packs a 10,200mAh battery. Motorola says it can provide up to 15 hours of YouTube streaming on a single charge.

The tablet comes with a 68W power adapter, although the device itself supports charging at up to 45W.

Other features include dual microphones, an IP52 rating and a USB-C port.

The tablet does not support LTE connectivity, so internet access requires a Wi-Fi connection.

Motorola has priced the Moto Pad 70 Groove at around $388 in India. It is unclear if this tablet will launch in other markets.
