Microsoft is preparing to launch a single Copilot AI “super app” that will bring chat, coding, Cowork, and autonomous Autopilot features together in one application later this year.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella revealed the plan during the company’s latest earnings call. The app is expected to serve both consumers and businesses.
The planned Copilot app will combine several of Microsoft’s AI capabilities rather than keeping them in separate experiences.
According to Nadella, the company wants to bring chat, coding, Cowork, and its new autonomous Autopilots into a single application.
The move places Microsoft among a growing number of AI companies trying to build apps that can handle more than basic chatbot conversations.
OpenAI and Anthropic are pursuing similar strategies. ChatGPT offers Work features, while Claude includes Cowork inside its chatbot.
The broader approach is to create a single AI interface where users can communicate with an AI, write code, and use autonomous agents without switching between different applications.
Microsoft has a large existing customer base for its Copilot products, although its paid user numbers remain well below those of ChatGPT.
The company currently has 30 million paid Copilot users across a pool of about 450 million business seats, according to the information provided.
The planned super app could give Microsoft a way to bring more of these AI capabilities together under one Copilot experience.
Microsoft is also entering an increasingly competitive AI market, with companies including OpenAI and Anthropic expanding their chatbots into broader AI platforms capable of handling different types of work.
The new Copilot app is expected to become available to consumers and businesses later this year.
