Meta has launched new paid subscription plans for its three flagship apps, Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp, in a major shift away from relying almost entirely on advertising revenue.

The move, announced by Meta head of product Naomi Gleit in a video posted on Instagram, introduces “Instagram Plus,” “Facebook Plus” and “WhatsApp Plus” as optional premium tiers that sit alongside the existing free services.

Her announcement followed months of testing subscription features, after Meta earlier signaled that it would experiment with new paid offerings across its platforms while keeping core experiences free.

Under the new plans, Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus are priced at 3.99 dollars per month, while WhatsApp Plus comes in at 2.99 dollars per month, with the company positioning them as low-cost upgrades aimed at power users, creators and small businesses.

The subscriptions are being rolled out globally, with Meta saying users will be able to sign up directly through the apps as the plans become available in their regions.

Meta emphasized that the standard ad-supported versions of Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp will continue to be available at no charge, framing the new tiers as an add-on for those who want more tools and control.
