A team of police officers has gone viral after using an unusual undercover tactic: male officers disguised themselves as a female dance group to arrest a suspected drug dealer during a street operation in Tha Luang, eastern Thailand.
Photos shared by local police show the officers dressed in glittering dresses and performance outfits, smiling after the successful arrest, RT International reported.
The image quickly spread online due to the unexpected “stage performance” look of the team, which included mostly male officers, with only one woman among them.
Authorities said the operation targeted a suspected drug dealer identified as Mekha Fa-wap-wap. During the arrest, police recovered 53 methamphetamine tablets, over 200 small plastic bags used for drug distribution, and a mobile phone.
According to reports, officers believed the suspect was involved in illegal drug activity and chose to disguise themselves as dancers during a public event to avoid detection and catch him off guard.
The suspect now faces multiple charges, including possession of a category-one narcotic with intent to sell, as well as illegal gambling-related offenses linked to an unauthorized slot machine.
The unusual disguise immediately sparked online reactions, with users comparing the operation to a real-life version of “21 Jump Street.”
This is not the first time Thai police have used creative disguises in operations. In previous cases, officers have reportedly posed as festival performers and even lion dancers during celebrations to track down wanted suspects.
