Malaysian authorities have introduced a new photo verification process for certain Employment Pass and Dependant Pass applications submitted through the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and Expatriate Services Division (ESD) systems.

Under the new process, applicants using the MDEC system must have their photographs verified through the eVISA portal. The verification is carried out instantly and checks whether the photograph matches the applicant’s passport and supporting documents while also meeting eVISA/MyVisa specifications.

Applicants whose photographs do not meet these requirements could face delays when applying for an eVISA. The eVISA application can only be submitted after MDEC approves the underlying pass application.

The ESD has introduced a similar verification process. However, applicants and employers using the ESD system can access the eVISA verification platform directly through a link available within the ESD portal, making the process more streamlined.
