The Jaglot–Skardu Road has been reopened for all types of traffic after remaining closed for several days due to flash flood damage near Sassi Haramosh, restoring a vital transport link between Gilgit and Skardu.
The reopening comes after emergency restoration work carried out by the National Highway Authority (NHA) and the Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), which worked to clear the affected section and repair the damaged infrastructure.
A day earlier, Federal Minister for Communications Abdul Aleem Khan visited the flood-hit bridge near Sassi Haramosh Ansar Camp to inspect the damage and review ongoing restoration efforts. During the visit, he directed officials to accelerate repair work and deploy additional heavy machinery to reopen the road as quickly as possible and reduce the hardship faced by stranded commuters and local residents.
Aleem Khan expressed confidence that the road would soon be fully restored and praised NHA and FWO personnel for working around the clock despite difficult conditions. Chairman NHA, the Secretary for Communications, the Chief Secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan, and the Commissioner of Gilgit accompanied the minister during the inspection.
The reopening of the Jaglot–Skardu Road is expected to ease travel and restore the movement of passengers and goods after days of disruption caused by the recent flash floods.
