Wolverhampton Wanderers have been officially relegated from the Premier League after a disappointing 2025–26 campaign, ending their eight-season stay in the top flight.
Their relegation was confirmed following West Ham United’s goalless draw with Crystal Palace on Monday, leaving Wolves stuck on 17 points from 33 matches.
The outcome marks a significant decline for the West Midlands club, which struggled to find consistency throughout the season.
Wolves began the campaign under manager Vítor Pereira, but he was dismissed in November after a poor run of results. He was replaced by Rob Edwards, formerly of Luton Town and Middlesbrough. However, the managerial change did not lead to a sustained improvement in performance.
The club endured a difficult start, failing to secure its first league win until January. While Wolves did record notable victories against Aston Villa and Liverpool later in the season, these results were isolated highlights in an otherwise challenging campaign.
Relegation means Wolves will return to the EFL Championship for the first time since the 2017–18 season.
Interim executive Nathan Shi acknowledged the disappointment, stating that supporters “deserve better” and confirming that plans are already in place to rebuild the team.
In an official statement, Shi described the situation as a “difficult moment” but emphasized that preparations are underway to strengthen the squad and restore confidence among fans. He also thanked supporters for their continued backing during a tough season.
Wolves now face a critical summer as they look to regroup and push for a return to the top tier of English football.
