Pakistan’s first Explosive Detection System (EDS) has been inaugurated at the cargo terminal of Sialkot International Airport, marking a major step toward enhancing cargo security and improving export operations.

The advanced screening system was jointly inaugurated by SIAL Chairman Hassan Ali Bhatti and Export Development Fund (EDF) Chairman Omer Saeed during a ceremony attended by senior airport officials and directors.

According to airport officials, the EDS has been installed to strengthen cargo screening procedures, improve operational efficiency and facilitate exports in line with international standards.

Speaking at the inauguration, Hassan Ali Bhatti described the installation as a significant milestone for Sialkot International Airport. He said the system can scan up to 1,800 bags per hour, enabling faster processing of export consignments while enhancing security measures.

He added that the technology would help ensure the smooth movement of cargo and demonstrate Pakistan’s commitment to meeting international security and operational standards.

EDF Chairman Omer Saeed said the new system would provide greater convenience to exporters and further strengthen Sialkot’s position as one of Pakistan’s leading export hubs.
