LG has introduced a new UltraGear gaming monitor that it claims is the world’s first Full HD monitor with a native 1,000Hz refresh rate.

The monitor has a 1,920 x 1,080 resolution and is designed for fast-paced first-person shooter games, where accurate aiming and quick reaction times matter most.

For most users, including casual gamers, this level of refresh rate may be more than they need. However, competitive players and esports users who value very high refresh rates may find it more useful.

Samsung and Acer have also launched 1,000Hz monitors in recent months, but those are limited to 720p while using the full 1,000Hz refresh rate.  Acer’s model runs at 500Hz when used at 1440p.

LG says its UltraGear monitor can reach 1,000Hz natively at Full HD resolution. This means the screen can refresh 1,000 times per second without dropping to a lower resolution.

A higher refresh rate reduces screen lag and helps moving objects appear clearer.

It can also reduce motion blur and stuttering during fast movement. In addition, it lowers the delay between mouse or keyboard input and the action shown on screen.

Most monitors currently top out at 240Hz, which is enough for most users and many gamers who play FPS titles.

Since 1,000Hz monitors are still rare, it remains unclear whether they provide a major improvement that would make them necessary for most players.

The LG UltraGear has a 24.5-inch display with an IPS panel and a low reflection film.

It has a small base to save desk space. Users can also adjust the monitor’s tilt and height for a better viewing position.

LG has included an integrated hook for headset storage.

The monitor also includes AI-based features. It’s on-device AI Scene Optimization adjusts picture settings based on the game genre. LG has also added AI Sound for spatial audio.

LG has not yet announced the monitor’s pricing or availability.
