Lahore Electric Supply Company (LESCO) has uncovered a new method of electricity theft involving the use of remote-control devices to manipulate power meters.

According to a statement issued by LESCO’s spokesperson, the operation was carried out on the directions of Chief Executive Engineer Muhammad Ramzan Butt as part of the company’s ongoing crackdown on power theft.

During the raid, LESCO teams targeted an industrial connection in Shahdara and caught two suspects allegedly tampering with the system through a remote-control device.

Officials said the accused were using the setup to interfere with meter readings and had caused losses of around Rs. 6.5 million to the power utility.

The company said its team seized the cable, meter, and transformer from the site during the action. The suspects were also taken into custody on the spot.

Following the raid, the LESCO chief praised SE Northern Muhammad Muzammil, the Jia Musa surveillance staff, and the M&T team for successfully exposing the method and carrying out the operation.

LESCO said its operation against electricity theft is being tightened further and will continue without discrimination as the company moves to curb losses and crack down on those involved in power fraud.
