Pakistan suffered their eighth consecutive away Test defeat after losing the opening Test against West Indies by 90 runs at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy.

The defeat left Pakistan at the bottom of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 standings. Pakistan have played five Tests, winning one and losing four. They have collected four points and have a points percentage of 6.66.

Despite the victory, West Indies remain eighth in the standings. They have played 11 Tests, winning two, losing seven and drawing two. They have earned 30 points and have a points percentage of 22.73.

Australia continue to lead the WTC standings after winning seven of their eight Tests and losing one. They have accumulated 84 points and have a points percentage of 87.50.

Defending champions South Africa are in second place with three wins from four matches. They have collected 36 points and have a points percentage of 75.00.

West Indies delivered an outstanding all-around performance with both bat and ball to defend a modest target and secure a memorable victory.

After choosing to bat first, the hosts were bowled out for 311 in 98.5 overs. Shai Hope top-scored with 92 from 182 deliveries, hitting six fours and one six.

Kevam Hodge scored 84 from 183 balls, including nine boundaries. Shamar Joseph added a quick 23 from 13 deliveries, hitting four fours and one six, while Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Amir Jangoo contributed 21 runs each.

Mohammad Ali was Pakistan’s leading bowler, finishing with figures of 4/50. Mohammad Abbas claimed three wickets, Khurram Shahzad took two and Aamer Jamal picked up one.

Pakistan replied with 282 in 80.1 overs, giving West Indies a first-innings lead of 29 runs.

Shan Masood played an excellent innings of 109 from 184 balls, while Imam-ul-Haq scored 63 from 102 deliveries. Babar Azam made 23 and Salman Ali Agha added 20.

Justin Greaves led the West Indies bowling attack with figures of 5/27. Shamar Joseph and Kemar Roach took two wickets each, while Jayden Seales claimed one.

With a 29-run lead, West Indies were bowled out for 181 in 54.5 overs, setting Pakistan a target of 211 runs.

The key moment of the innings was a crucial 61-run partnership between Kemar Roach and Shamar Joseph after West Indies had collapsed to 93/7.

Shamar Joseph scored a rapid 38 from 27 balls, hitting four sixes and one four. Chanderpaul made 35, while Greaves contributed 20.

Mohammad Abbas led Pakistan’s bowling attack with outstanding figures of 5/22. Khurram Shahzad and Mohammad Ali took two wickets each, while Jamal claimed one.

Pakistan’s chase failed to gain momentum, and the visitors were bowled out for 120 in 40.2 overs.

Babar Azam fought a lone battle with an unbeaten 58 from 107 deliveries, hitting nine fours. Abbas scored 23.

Jayden Seales produced the match-winning spell for West Indies, taking 5/20. Roach and Greaves claimed two wickets each, while Shamar Joseph took one as West Indies completed a comprehensive 90-run victory.
