The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Health Department has made it mandatory for patients to provide their Computerized National Identity Card (CNIC) number and mobile phone number when getting Outpatient Department (OPD) slips at all government hospitals and medical centers across the province.

The decision is aimed at improving transparency in the healthcare system and maintaining accurate patient records for better medical follow-ups.

According to the notification, OPD slips will not be issued to any patient without recording their CNIC number and mobile phone number. For minors, the CNIC number of a parent or guardian must be provided.

The Health Department said the new requirement is necessary to stop fake or anonymous registrations, reduce overcrowding, and ensure that genuine patients receive timely medical care.

Officials also said the digital record of patients will help track patient history more effectively and prevent the misuse of medical facilities. The system is also expected to support disease surveillance and public health planning across the province.

In addition to the mandatory identification rule, all health centers have been directed to display updated lists of available medicines on notice boards at prominent locations.

This step is intended to keep the public informed about the medicines available at government hospitals and reduce frustration and unnecessary delays.

The directive further stated that all relevant officers and medical staff must strictly follow the instructions. The department warned that any violation, negligence, or failure to comply will lead to departmental action against responsible officials under the relevant Efficiency and Discipline (E&D) Rules.

The health minister has directed that the order be enforced immediately across all district and tehsil hospitals in the province.
