Karachi traders have called on the government to ease restrictions or extend business hours as a severe heatwave continues to impact the city.
Rizwan Irfan, President of the Karachi Electronics Dealers Association, urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to take immediate action.
He said the current lockdown restrictions are making it difficult for businesses to operate.
Irfan explained that due to extreme heat and humidity, most customers prefer to visit markets after 5 p.m. However, with trading limited to only four hours, business activity has dropped significantly.
He requested authorities to either lift the restrictions or allow shops to stay open later in the evening to better match customer demand.
Meanwhile, Karachi is experiencing intense weather conditions with hot, dry winds sweeping across the city throughout the day, pushing temperatures higher.
The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has also forecast extremely hot and dry conditions in Karachi for Monday, with temperatures possibly reaching 41°C due to hot northwesterly winds. Some relief may come later in the evening as sea breezes are expected to return.
From Tuesday onward, temperatures are predicted to decrease slightly, ranging between 36°C and 38°C.
