The Karachi Port Trust (KPT) has achieved the highest annual cargo handling in its 138-year history, setting a new record of 54.685 million tons.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Junaid Anwar Chaudhry announced that KPT had surpassed its previous cargo handling record.

He said the government is continuing reforms aimed at transforming Pakistan into a major regional maritime and trade hub.

Efforts to modernize and expand the country’s ports have been accelerated, while improving logistics, attracting investment, and upgrading port infrastructure remain key priorities.

The minister also praised KPT Chairman Admiral Shahid Ahmed, along with the port’s officers and employees, for their role in achieving the record.

Chairman KPT Admiral Shahid Ahmed said Karachi Port has significantly improved its operational efficiency, handling capacity, and administrative performance.

He added that further measures are being implemented to enhance the port’s competitiveness and strengthen its position as one of the region’s leading maritime gateways.
