The Islamabad Capital Police (ICT) has announced a special traffic plan for Islamabad and Rawalpindi ahead of the Iranian president’s visit, with multiple road closures, diversions, and restrictions on heavy traffic expected to remain in place until further orders.
According to the advisory, the entry of all kinds of heavy traffic into Islamabad will be completely banned from 12am onward, regardless of the route being used. The restriction will remain effective until further instructions are issued.
Officials have also said that all entry points to the Red Zone will remain closed for all types of traffic, except for access through Marriott and Margalla Road.
As part of the plan, traffic diversions will be in place on the Expressway from Koral to Faizabad, Murree Road, and Club Road. Meanwhile, Srinagar Highway will remain completely closed from Zero Point to Dhokri Chowk.
Residents have been advised to use alternate routes during the movement of the foreign delegation. Traffic moving between Faisal Avenue and Zero Point will be diverted toward 9th Avenue.
If the route from Zero Point to Koral Chowk is closed, commuters can use Srinagar Highway, then move through 9th Avenue, Stadium Road, and Murree Road via Chandni Chowk before taking Rawal Road to reach Koral.
In case Club Road is closed from Park Road, traffic will be diverted toward Taramri Chowk. Citizens travelling between Bharakahu and Rawalpindi have been advised to use Korang Road, Bani Gala, and Lehtrar Road as alternate routes.
For those travelling between Rawalpindi Saddar and Islamabad, authorities have recommended using either Colonel Sher Khan Road via Faqir Aipi Road or 9th Avenue.

A separate diversion plan has also been issued for heavy traffic on GT Road. Vehicles travelling from Peshawar to Lahore will be redirected from Taxila to the Motorway, then through Chakri Interchange, Chak Beli Road, and onward to Rawat GT Road. Similarly, heavy traffic moving from Lahore to Peshawar will be diverted from Rawat through Chak Beli Road and Chakri Interchange, before rejoining the route via the Motorway toward Taxila.
The traffic plan has been issued to manage security and movement arrangements linked to the high-level foreign visit, with commuters in both cities likely to face disruptions on major routes.
