Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Friday indicated that the proposed “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding” is now closer to finalization.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Araghchi wrote this but urged media outlets to avoid speculation about its content until an official announcement is made.
Araghchi said the process of finalizing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding has reached an advanced stage. He emphasized that while progress has been made, details of the understanding remain under discussion and should not be publicly interpreted or assumed before formal completion.
He added that once the agreement is finalized, all relevant information will be shared transparently with the public in due course, reflecting what he described as a “responsible and transparent approach” by the parties involved.
The Islamabad MoU is understood to be part of ongoing diplomatic engagement between Islamabad and Tehran aimed at ending the Gulf War, besides strengthening cooperation in areas such as regional security, trade, border coordination, and political dialogue.
However, neither side has officially released the full framework or confirmed the final terms of the understanding.
The usual triad of Pakistan, Iran and US continues discussions on improving bilateral ties and addressing shared security and economic concerns along their long border.
No government spokesperson from all three sides has provided a timeline for formal signing, but the latest statement suggests negotiations are in their final stages.
