Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi is expected to meet New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani during his visit to the United States, where he is representing Pakistan at the Fifth United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS) 2026.

According to diplomatic sources, the meeting is expected to take place on the sidelines of Naqvi’s engagements in New York. The two-day UN summit has brought together interior ministers, police chiefs, and senior law enforcement officials from around the world to discuss global peacekeeping, security, and cooperation against transnational crime.

Naqvi is also scheduled to hold talks with UN Secretary-General António Guterres and meet counterparts from several participating countries.

Following his engagements in New York, the interior minister is expected to travel to Washington next week for meetings with senior US officials. Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Fatemi is also expected to join him for consultations.

The US visit comes as Pakistan continues to play a diplomatic role in efforts to facilitate dialogue between the United States and Iran.

Diplomatic sources say Islamabad has emerged as the leading venue for the next round of technical negotiations between the two countries, expected on July 11, ahead of high-level talks in Doha later this month.

Several other senior Pakistani officials, including Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, Rana Mashhood, and Khurram Dastgir, are also in the United States for separate official engagements.
