Instagram has started testing a new “AI creator” label for accounts that regularly post AI-generated content, as platforms continue facing growing concerns over the spread of synthetic media and low-quality AI-generated posts online.

However, the feature is entirely opt-in, meaning it won’t help you distinguish regular creators and AI creators unless they choose to activate the label.

When activated, the “AI creator” tag will appear on the user’s profile as well as alongside their posts.

Instagram has confirmed that the feature is still in testing and is not currently available to all users. The company said the label will expand to more accounts “in the coming weeks.”

According to Instagram, the feature is intended to improve transparency around AI-generated content on the platform.

The company also stated that enabling the label will not affect how accounts or posts are distributed across Instagram.

The opt-in nature of the feature raises questions about how widely it will be used.

Accounts that frequently post AI-generated content are not required to label themselves, despite Instagram presenting the feature as part of its transparency efforts.
