Nepal’s national carrier came under heavy fire online after sharing a flight network map that appeared to show Kashmir as part of Pakistan.

The map sparked outrage among Indians and forcing the airline to delete the post.

The controversy erupted after Nepal Airlines posted an image of its international route network on social media. In the map, the disputed Kashmir region was shown in a way that many Indian users said misrepresented India’s boundaries.

Screenshots of the post quickly spread online, with Indians accusing the airline of making a serious cartographic error.

The backlash intensified as Indian users demanded the Modi government to ban the airline and take action. Many described the map as unacceptable, while some went further and urged Indian authorities to respond over what they viewed as a politically sensitive mistake.

We sincerely apologize for error in the network map recently shared on our social media channels. The map contained significant cartographic inaccuracies regarding international boundaries that do not reflect the official stance of Nepal or Nepal Airlines. pic.twitter.com/E5MZSS8CjQ

As the criticism grew, Nepal Airlines removed the post and later issued a public apology. In its statement, the airline admitted that the map contained “cartographic inaccuracies” regarding international boundaries and said the image did not reflect the official position of either Nepal or Nepal Airlines.

The airline said it had immediately taken down the post and launched an internal review to ensure greater accuracy in future materials.
