Erling Haaland scored a late winner as Norway defeated Ivory Coast 2-1 in Texas to set up a last-16 clash with Brazil at the World Cup.

The Manchester City striker scored in the 86th minute, turning in Patrick Berg’s cross from close range as the ball slowly rolled over the line. It was Haaland’s fifth goal of the tournament and sealed Norway’s first-ever knockout win in World Cup history.

Norway will now face five-time champions Brazil on Sunday in New Jersey, with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

The match started slowly, with both teams struggling to create clear chances in the opening stages. Ivory Coast had an early opportunity after 20 minutes when Ghislain Konan entered the box from the left, but his effort hit the side netting.

Ivory Coast grew into the game through Yan Diomande, who caused problems on the left side. Haaland had limited service in the first half and could only manage a tame header straight at goalkeeper Yahia Fofana.

Norway took the lead six minutes before halftime through Antonio Nusa. The 21-year-old received the ball from captain Martin Odegaard, cut inside and curled a brilliant shot into the top corner.

Norway almost doubled their lead before the break, but Ibrahim Sangare made a crucial block to deny Haaland.

Ivory Coast pushed forward in the second half and came close to conceding again when Amad Diallo cleared the ball off the line after a Norway corner.

Diallo then made his impact at the other end, scoring a superb equalizer in the 74th minute after dribbling past two challenges inside the box.

With extra time approaching, Haaland produced the decisive moment. The striker reacted quickly to Berg’s cross and forced the ball home to restore Norway’s lead.

Ivory Coast had one final chance late in the match, but Norway goalkeeper Orjan Nyland made a flying save from Diallo’s free kick to protect the lead and send Norway through.
