X chatbot Grok has failed to clearly identify the country responsible for a recent drone strike on a nuclear power facility in Abu Dhabi.
The discussion intensified after users turned to Grok to confirm which country was behind the attack. The chatbot provided uncertain or inconsistent responses. “Grok is currently unavailable,” it replied to some people who asked for a confirmation. It also said, “Grok is currently available to Premium and Premium+ subscribers only”.
In response to an account with premium subscription, it said, “No group has claimed responsibility yet and the perpetrator remains unidentified in official statements. Investigations are underway amid broader regional tensions”.
According to official information released by Abu Dhabi authorities, a drone strike caused a fire at an electrical generator located at the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant in the UAE’s Al-Dhafra region.
In a statement posted on X by Abu Dhabi’s media office, officials confirmed that no injuries were reported and that the fire occurred outside the plant’s inner security perimeter.
There was no impact on radiological safety levels and nuclear operations remained unaffected.
Emergency teams contained the fire shortly after the incident, and the facility continued functioning normally.
The incident has drawn attention not only to regional security concerns but also to the challenges AI systems face when responding to queries about verifying news reports.
