Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb on Monday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to modernizing Pakistan’s tax system through technology-driven reforms during a meeting with a delegation from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Pakistan (ICAP).

The finance minister noted that AI-based production monitoring and technology-driven oversight mechanisms introduced across multiple sectors are helping improve documentation, strengthen compliance, and reduce revenue leakages.

Aurangzeb outlined the government’s ongoing efforts to transform tax administration through reforms focused on people, processes, and technology. He emphasized institutional modernization, simplification of procedures, and greater automation aimed at improving transparency, minimizing human intervention, and facilitating taxpayers.

The finance minister stressed the importance of continued engagement with professional bodies and industry stakeholders to ensure economic and taxation policies remain practical, responsive, and aligned with broader reform objectives.

He highlighted the operationalization of the Tax Policy Office under the Finance Division as a key institutional reform designed to strengthen policy formulation and improve coordination between tax policy and tax administration.

Discussions also focused on the expanding role of digital systems in enhancing compliance and enforcement.

During the meeting, the ICAP delegation presented proposals covering documentation measures, group taxation structures, export-oriented services, and harmonization of tax treatment across sectors.

Both sides also discussed initiatives aimed at improving competitiveness, encouraging investment, enhancing the ease of doing business, and supporting revenue mobilization while broadening the tax base.

Aurangzeb acknowledged the recommendations shared by the delegation and said they would be reviewed as part of the ongoing federal budget formulation process. He reiterated the government’s commitment to building a transparent, technology-enabled, and facilitative tax system to support economic growth and strengthen governance.
