Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar chaired a meeting of the Committee for Monitoring and Implementation of Austerity Measures at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where revised business and market operating hours were approved in view of extended daylight and rising summer temperatures.
The committee reviewed ongoing austerity-related measures and decided to extend closing timings for key commercial sectors to ease public activity during peak summer conditions.
Under the revised schedule, shops, markets, malls, and general retail outlets will now close at 9:00 PM. Restaurants, cafés, and eateries will remain open until 11:00 PM, with takeaway and delivery services exempt from timing restrictions.
Marriage halls and event venues will continue to operate under existing timings, with a 10:00 PM closing time unchanged. Essential services, including pharmacies, hospitals, fuel stations, and IT and telecom services, have been fully exempted from the restrictions.
The committee also directed provincial governments to ensure strict implementation of the revised guidelines in coordination with federal authorities.
Officials further discussed and approved additional agenda items during the meeting.
The session was attended by the Ministers for Petroleum, Climate Change, Information, and IT & Telecom, along with SAPM Finance, SAPM to the Deputy Prime Minister, Secretaries of Commerce, Cabinet, Petroleum, and IT & Telecommunications, as well as senior representatives from provincial governments.
