Government employees have announced protest sit-ins in Islamabad during the presentation of the Federal Budget 2026-27, stepping up pressure on the government over salaries, pensions, and service-related demands.

Under the banner of the All Government Employees Grand Alliance, workers plan to stage a demonstration outside the Ministry of Finance on June 4, followed by a sit-in outside Parliament House on June 5. Employee delegations from different parts of the country are expected to join the protest.

The alliance has asked the government to immediately implement all commitments made in the agreement reached on March 10, 2025.

Among its main demands, AGEGA has called for all ad hoc relief allowances to be merged into basic pay and for a new Pay Scale 2026 to be introduced for public sector employees. It has also demanded a 100 percent Ad Hoc Relief Allowance 2026 and a 50 percent salary increase for employees earning less than Rs. 50,000 per month.

The group is also seeking a 200 percent increase in conveyance, medical, and house rent allowances, arguing that inflation and rising living costs have made it increasingly difficult for government workers to manage household expenses.

AGEGA has further demanded the withdrawal of pension reforms and the continuation of the existing pension system. It also wants the restoration of job quotas or employment opportunities for children of government employees who die during service.

To address salary gaps among different categories of public servants, the alliance has proposed an additional 30 percent Disparity Reduction Allowance.

The charter of demands also includes the removal of the 25 percent tax slab imposed on teachers and researchers, along with refunds for deductions already made under that measure.

The alliance has also called for the regularization of daily-wage and contract workers in public institutions, while proposing that the minimum monthly salary for government employees should be fixed at Rs. 50,000.

In addition, it has asked the government to form joint committees for institutions under the privatization program to protect workers’ interests.

The planned protests come just ahead of the federal budget, setting the stage for renewed pressure on the government from public sector employees seeking major financial relief.
