Parliamentary Secretary for Communications Gul Asghar Khan Baghoor informed the National Assembly that reconstruction work on the flood damaged N-95 Kalam Road in Swat will begin within the next 90 days.
Responding to a calling attention notice moved by MNA Amjad Ali Khan, the parliamentary secretary said the 133 kilometre Chakdara-Kalam Road suffered extensive damage during the 2022 floods, particularly along a six kilometre stretch.
He acknowledged that commuters had been facing difficulties for a long time due to the damaged road section. Gul Asghar Khan Baghoor told the House that the government had continued providing maintenance funds to the Frontier Works Organization (FWO) to keep the road operational during different seasons.
He said Rs. 415 million had already been approved for the reconstruction project after discussions in Parliament, while an additional Rs. 276 million had also been allocated. The parliamentary secretary further said another Rs. 950 million had been proposed in the upcoming federal budget for the project.
According to him, site visits, technical discussions, and committee reviews had almost been completed and the project had entered its final stage before execution. Gul Asghar Khan Baghoor added that the damaged six kilometre portion required complete reconstruction instead of routine maintenance work.
