Google has announced a new Video Remix feature for Google Photos that can edit and transform videos in seconds using AI.
Announced on Wednesday, the feature is powered by Gemini Omni, Google’s recently released AI model that the company says can “create anything from any input.”
The launch is Google’s latest effort to bring more generative AI features to its consumer apps as it competes with Apple, OpenAI, and Adobe.
By integrating AI-powered video editing directly into Google Photos, the company aims to let users edit videos with just a few taps instead of relying on dedicated editing software, while also encouraging them to stay within Google’s ecosystem.
Video Remix is available through the Create tab in Google Photos and offers several AI-powered editing options. Users can apply cinematic relighting to brighten dark videos, replace plain backgrounds, or add artistic effects such as watercolor, raw sketchbook, and oil painting styles.
For example, users can make a video appear as though it was filmed inside a greenhouse, apply a morning glow through AI relighting, or transform footage into a watercolor-style video.
Google said:
“Creating beautiful video clips shouldn’t require professional skills or hours of editing. Now, with Video Remix in Google Photos, you can transform ordinary videos into share-worthy moments in just a few taps.”
Video Remix begins rolling out today to eligible Google AI Plus, Pro, and Ultra subscribers in the United States, Argentina, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Pakistan, the Philippines, South Korea, and Turkey.
Video Remix is the latest addition to Google’s expanding lineup of AI-powered features in Google Photos.
The app recently introduced AI touch-up tools that let users make subtle edits, including removing blemishes, refining skin texture, brightening eyes, and whitening teeth.
Google has also announced an AI-powered feature that turns photos of clothing into a digital wardrobe, allowing users to generate outfit ideas and virtually try on different looks.
